President Donald Trump recently made headlines when he corrected Melania Trump for saying out aloud her New Year’s resolution because they’re not supposed to be spoken out loud. But then the internet weighed in by saying the POTUS’ action is actually not necessary.
Reporters asked Donald Trump and Melania what their New Year’s Resolutions are just before New Year arrived. The president then gestured to his wife to say something.
“Peace on the world,” Melania Trump responded to the question. However, the President quickly took over and hinted at his wife that she shouldn’t have spoken it out loud.
“Peace is right but I'm not sure you're supposed to say a resolution out loud,” Donald Trump told reporters as Melania looked on, ENews reported. “So I don't want to say what my resolution is because I think we jinx it, alright?”
Donald Trump then added that while he won’t be mentioning what his New Year’s Resolutions are, it’s all for the good of the country. “But I can tell you were really have a good resolution and it's a resolution for our country,” he said. “We love our country. Our country has never done better than it's doing right now.”
However, some netizens disagree with Donald Trump’s superstitions about not saying a New Year’s resolutions aloud. Apparently, the belief only applies to birthday wishes. “That's birthday wishes, grandpa,” Twitter user @eggymce wrote on the platform.
Specifically, it only applies to birthday wishes made when blowing out the candles on a birthday cake. “@realDonaldTrump is thinking of birthday wishes when blowing out candles. Like a child,” Twitter used @mr_boeb opined.
Twitter user @TashaSl8r is of the same opinion as well. “Does he think a resolution is the same as a 10-year olds birthday wish when they blow out the candles on their cake?” @TashaSl8r tweeted.
Meanwhile, some people are not so sure if Melania Trump really wanted world peace. “Peace on the world, or was it **** on the world?” one Twitter user questioned, according to Express.
Another user hinted that the misunderstanding might be caused by Melania’s accent. “Did you say **** on the world? Woman when are you going to speak English?” the user tweeted.
